Ban Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Reinstate Postal Ballots in India
As a concerned citizen and a keen observer of the democratic process in India, I've personally experienced the shift from traditional postal votes to Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). It's heartbreaking to express, but over the years, many instances have come to light where the integrity of EVMs has been put to question, leading to growing apprehension around their use, fueled by potential opportunities for manipulation. Numerous developed nations like France, Germany, and The Netherlands have reverted to paper ballots citing security and integrity concerns. With over 900 million Indians eligible to vote, the stakes are high to preserve the essence of our democracy.
According to the Indian Statistical Institute's report, the current security measures in the EVMs are inadequate, which might leave room for potential tampering. This is not merely about the technical aspects but also about restoring voters' confidence in the electoral process.
By reverting to postal ballots, there's an opportunity to ensure that the democratic process remains transparent, secure, and true to each Indian voter's voice. While there may be logistical challenges, the essence of a flawless democratic process must take precedence.
Let’s uphold and protect the principles of our Indian democracy by banning the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and reinstating the practice of traditional postal votes. Sign this petition and help safeguard the world’s largest democracy.
